Vikings owner: Surprise firing of GM went deeper than just one decision

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is out in Minnesota, and the timing says everything. The Vikings fired their GM on Friday, with owner Mark Wilf stepping in shortly after to confirm what most fans already knew.

Basically, four years of mixed results and one brutal quarterback carousel were enough.

"This was about the totality," Wilf said. "A body of work." Translation: They're cleaning house before a critical offseason.

Let's not dance around it. This all circles back to 2025's quarterback debacle. The Vikings passed on bringing back two starters — Sam Darnold, now prepping for a Super Bowl with Seattle, and Daniel Jones, who had the Colts rolling before an Achilles tear — to hand the keys to rookie J.J. McCarthy.

That bet flopped hard.

McCarthy couldn't stay healthy and didn't look ready when he was. Minnesota ended up starting Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer in a forgettable 9-8 season that felt like 6-11. It was messy. It was avoidable.

Wilf dodged direct blame on that one, saying "it's not fair to focus on any one decision." But Vikings fans sure are.

Now, Kevin O'Connell is eyeing competition for McCarthy, and Rob Brzezinski — the team's longtime cap wizard — is stepping in to run personnel through free agency and the draft.

So yeah, it's about to get real in Minnesota.

Miss on another QB? That's your job. And your season.
