Vikings Rookie QB JJ McCarthy Throws Horrific First Pitch At Twins Game

Well, at least he's a quarterback and not a pitcher. That's one thing for fans of the Minnesota sports scene to feel good about after seeing a first pitch from Vikings QB JJ McCarthy at a Twins game.

McCarthy, of course, was the Vikings' first-round draft pick and is about to enter his rookie season. The pitch, without a doubt, was brutal.

"McCarthy, fresh off a championship run with the Wolverines, is vying with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold for the starting position after Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this year," Paulina Dedaj of Fox News Digital wrote.

Coach Kevin O'Connell said that Darnold will open camp as the No. 1 QB on the depth chart, and that makes sense, given that he's actually played in the NFL. But McCarthy is undoubtedly the Vikings QB of The Future.

??"We haven't had to put out a depth chart or anything like that, but yeah, I would say Sam would be the guy I would look to based upon the spring he's had, and really where he's at in his career and his quarterback journey, and what he's been able to do coming in and [hitting] the ground running and taking advantage of a competitive situation," O'Connell said.

So while the Vikings could bring in McCarthy in relief, we certainly don't have to worry about the Twins doing the same. Not after the one showing he gave on the mound, anyway.

Already, he'd be sent down to Rookie League with a showing like that.
