This was a game in which Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey missed two field goals, Commanders kicker Austin Seibert missed two point after attempts, and the Cowboys returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Oh, and the Commanders blocked a punt for good measure.
This was the first game in NFL history (Super Bowl era) that featured two missed PATs, two kickoff return touchdowns, and a blocked punt. But this stat was only the tip of the insanity iceberg. The closing minutes of the NFC East matchup were completely wild.
The sequence began with Luke Schoonmaker scoring a 22-yard touchdown to put the Cowboys up 20-9. Jayden Daniels then found Zach Ertz for a four-yard touchdown. He rushed for the two-point conversation to make the score 20-17.
This three-point deficit lasted until the kickoff. KaVontae Turpin returned the kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to give the Cowboys a 10-point lead once again with just over two minutes remaining.

On any other Sunday, this would have taken the Commanders out of contention. This was not a normal Sunday.
Shortly after kicking a field goal, the Commanders attempted an onside kick. It failed, but they forced the Cowboys to punt. Daniels had less than one minute to lead his team down the field and score the game-tying touchdown.
It took one play as he hit Terry McLaurin for an 86-yard touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining. All the Commanders needed to do was make the extra point to force overtime, but Seibert missed his second PAT.

The Commanders had one more onside kick attempt available. However, it backfired. The kick went straight to Juanyeh Thomas, who returned it 43 yards for another touchdown. This gave the Cowboys an eight-point lead with 14 seconds remaining.
The kickoff gave Daniels and the Commanders one last chance for a Hail Mary attempt. He launched a pass deep with seconds remaining, but Israel Mukuamu scored the interception to bring the wild game to its end.
"The NFL Script Writers are on point this week. I hope (NFL) gives these guys a nice bonus today," one person posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
