Zach Wilson Vacations With Girlfriend Ahead Of Broncos QB Competition

Zach Wilson is the former No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but it never worked out with the New York Jets. So he was shipped to the Denver Broncos and is starting anew.

But before he gets ready to embark on the quarterback competition (which appears to be a three-man race), Wilson clearly is taking some time away. That much was evidenced by the social media posts from Wilson's girlfriend, Nicolette Dellanno, a model and influencer. Dellano shared hots of a Memorial Day weekend getaway with friends, with Wilson among those pictured. The getaway appears to have taken place at Lake Powell in Utah.

As for Wilson on the field, he is expected to battle Jarrett Stidham and Bo Nix, the Broncos' No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, for Denver's starting spot. He recently addressed his new team and the trade from the Jets.

"Obviously, there's bittersweet moments in everything," Wilson told reporters in his first comments since the April trade. "I was grateful for my experiences there and the guys. I miss the guys out there and everything too. But at the same time, a fresh start is good. I'm excited to attack a new challenge."

Basically, Wilson's tenure with the Jets didn't go as planned, with various factors contributing to his struggles. The lack of competition and support from the organization, coupled with his own challenges on the field, likely made for a tough start to his career. The comparison to other quarterbacks from his draft class who have already moved teams emphasizes the volatility and unpredictability of the NFL, especially for young quarterbacks.

It will be interesting to see how Wilson's career progresses with his new team, and if he can overcome the obstacles he faced in New York.

"Wilson, 24, did not play well when given the opportunity, throwing 23 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions in 34 games (33 starts), including last year's eight-touchdown, seven-interception showing," wrote Matt Ehalt of the New York Post.

"The Jets also failed to provide a stable environment for Wilson during his time with the team, with offensive line issues and underwhelming offensive coordinators.

"Although the Jets tried to play up the idea of Wilson learning as Aaron Rodgers' backup and then being ready to take the reins once Rodgers left town, that idea always seemed like it would be the best-case scenario rather than reality."
