The Seattle Kraken announced the news and provided comments from Fielder's family. According to the information provided, Fielder suffered a massive stroke at his home in Arizona while preparing to move back to Washington. He never fully regained consciousness before passing away days later.

"It was all very peaceful," his niece, Jackie Malsam, explained. "We were all sitting around the table reminiscing late into the (Monday) night and he just closed his eyes like he always did when he needed to take a rest. This time, he didn't open them back up."

Born in Idaho, Fielder grew up in Saskatchewan and competed in the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League. He ultimately made his way to the professional ranks in the early 1950s while playing for the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Boston Bruins.

The majority of his career featured him suiting up for the Seattle Totems in the Western Hockey League. He guided the team to three championships (1959, 1967, 1968) and won six MVP awards. He scored 1,771 points during his time in the Western Hockey League.

Fielder scored a total of 2,037 points during his professional career. This ranks fourth all-time behind Wayne Gretzsky, Gordie Howe, and Jaromir Jagr.

The longtime hockey player retired in 1973. And while he never played for the Seattle Kraken, the team created an award in his honor after they entered the NHL in 2021. The Guyle Fielder Award goes to a member of the team "who best exemplifies perseverance, hustle, and dedication to hockey."

"Hockey had a rich history well before the Kraken with one of the greatest players of his era calling Seattle home," Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke said in a statement.

"Guyle Fielder not only played for Seattle for 14 seasons he brought championships to our community and was regarded as one of the finest scorers to play the game. We named a team award after Guyle for perseverance, hustle and dedication and we will forever honor this great friend and his amazing spirit and achievements."
