Listeners quickly connected with him.
Gordon had an encyclopedic knowledge of the NHL, its history and its culture. But what made his show stand out was the way he talked about the game. His conversations felt natural, smart and welcoming to die-hard fans and casual listeners alike.
He also became a pioneer in the fantasy hockey world, dedicating weekly segments to breaking down players and strategy long before the format became mainstream.
Fans affectionately called him "The Boom," though Gordon was never about loud hot takes. If he shared an opinion, it was thoughtful and genuine.
That approach made his show feel exactly how he once described a great hometown broadcast: like comfort food.
