The AHL has suspended Albany Devils' Dan Kelly for his clearly and incredibly egregious hit on Toronto Marlies' Andreas Johnson Tuesday night.
As Johnson crossed the blue line, Kelly aimed for him and shoulder checked him (in the face), leaving Johnson sprawled out on the ice and laying motionless for several moments.
Johnson was later taken to the hospital.
Kelly received an instant game misconduct for the hit, but the AHL came down as hard on him as he did on Johnson, by slapping him with a 10-game suspension. The suspension is to be served into next season depending on how far the Devils advance in the playoffs.
The Marlies have a 3-2 edge on the Devils in their "best of seven" playoff series.
