Hilary Knight, Team USA women's hockey captain, proposed to longtime girlfriend Brittany Bowe, an Olympic speedskater. Knight got down on one knee and popped the question right before practice. She didn't tell anyone in the locker room but the couple posted the news on their Instagram accounts.
"Olympics brought us together. This one made us forever," Knight wrote in the caption of an Instagram Reel showing off the proposal.
Team USA then went out and defeated the Canadian women's hockey team 2-1 in overtime. They captured a gold medal and closed out a special day.
Oh, Knight also scored one of the goals during the comeback win. She became the top goal scorer in U.S. Olympic history. She achieved this in what was her fifth and final appearance in the Olympic Games. Knight won her second Olympic gold medal and fifth medal overall.
According to People, the two Olympians first met during the 2022 Games in Beijing. They got to know each other while in a bubble as the events took place under COVID restrictions.
This created a unique scenario where Knight and Bowe essentially had no distractions as they grew closer and learned more about each other.
"(It was) a very unique way to meet someone, but it was also kind of cool because we felt like we were in this bubble," Bowe, a two-time Bronze medalist, told the outlet.
"We didn't have the family, the friends, no outside distractions. And we really had a lot of time just to get to know each other."
Years later, the couple committed to each other while back at the Olympics. They set up their future together and celebrated with far more people around.
