Gold Medalist Noah Lyles Defends His Fellow Olympian Girlfriend From 'Pure Disrespect And Hatred'

As many know Noah Lyles won gold in the 100-meter race at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and also finished with a bronze in the 200 m. Due to his outspoken nature, the U.S. sprinter often receives backlash from comments he makes in the media, such as criticizing NBA players.

He's not the only one, as his Jamaican track and field star girlfriend, Junelle Bromfield, also has had to deal with hostility from fans.

"The most impressive thing I've seen recently is how she's dealt with the pure disrespect and hatred towards her from her own country," Lyles said on Instagram.

Appearing on the nationally televised "Today" show, Lyles was introduced as the "fastest man in the world."

He was then asked to introduce Bromfield.

"Janelle, a 2x Olympian, an Olympic bronze medal winner, multi world champion medalist... She's been running since she was 8 years old, making teams for Jamaica," the gold medalist said.

"So she's very talented in her own right. She ran at the Olympics this year in the open 400 meters and I'm so proud of her. Of course, she's a survivor, she's a fighter, she's savvy — as my mom would say, she has 'bounce-back-ability.'"

When the hosts asked how they met, it was referenced that, Lyles made sure to point out, "Somebody slid into somebody's DM's... It wasn't me."

Also during the interview, the 27-year-old sprinter expounded on how it felt to get diagnosed with COVID before winning bronze in the 200-meter race, saying that he remained calm despite the circumstances, since he's been in worser situations before.

Lyles claimed that he himself has also had to overcome many obstacles in his life, such as asthma, sickness, dyslexia, anxiety and depression. The three-time Olympic medalist credits his own perseverance to helping him find success on the track, so he is not bothered by the haters, as Lyles previously summed up his experience at the 2024 Paris Games.

"I hope everyone enjoyed the show. Whether you were rooting for me or against me, you have to admit you watched, didn't you?"
