Olympics Opening Ceremony Hits Ground Running, For First Time, Outside A Stadium

The 2024 Paris Olympics have arrived and look no further than Friday's Opening Ceremony for your proof. Until then, it seemed like all waiting, lots of news, and no action, basically.

But they have finally arrived and some games have already begun. Oh, and for the first time in history, the Opening Ceremony took place somewhere other than inside a stadium.

Per CBS Sports:

"It is the first time that the Parade of Nations will take place outside of an arena and the athletes will be treated to numerous musical performances as they make their way toward the Trocadero where things will wrap up. Rumors are circulating that Celine Dion will join Lady Gaga for a performance to close the show, which would be her first performance since being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome.

"For the United States, there will be two flag bearers while onboard the boat. LeBron James and Coco Gauff will get that distinct honor this year, which came as a bit of a surprise given the success of both Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. But Biles nor Ledecky will even be in attendance for the Opening Ceremony as both are preparing for competition over the weekend."

As usual, the Olympics summer games feature plenty for everyone — from basketball to swimming to rugby and golf. Overall, more than 200 countries are represented in one sport or another.
