Slovakian Swimmer Carried Off On Stretcher Following Her Heat At Olympics

Slovakian swimmer Tamara Potocka was carried off on a stretcher and needed medical treatment after suffering an asthma attack during her 200-meter individual medley heat at the Paris Olympics.

She is expected to be OK.

The Athletic was among those to report details on the incident.

"The 21-year-old finished the third heat of the women's 200m individual medley event on Friday morning local time before collapsing on the side of the pool at La Defense Arena," the outlet wrote. "Medical personnel were quick to attend before she was fitted with a neck brace and taken from the pool deck on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on her face."

Potocka is asthmatic and the Slovakian Olympic team has since confirmed she suffered an attack.

"She has since been given oxygen therapy and during the procedure has communicated, the team confirmed," per The Athletic. "She was assessed by medical staff in hospital before being released and returning to the Olympic Village later on Thursday afternoon."

After a brief delay to treat Potocka, the event went on.

"Potocka's seventh-place finish in a time of 2:14:20 from lane eight was not enough to qualify for the semifinals. Canada's Summer McIntosh won the heat," The Athletic wrote.

"A four-time finalist at the 2024 European Championships, this is Potocka's first Olympic Games. Potocka is a medley specialist with the 200m individual medley her only event in Paris."

Added Fox News Digital of the swimmer: "Potocka was competing in her first Olympic Games. She is a four-time 2024 European Championships finalist and made her debut in 2018 at the World Short Course Championships in China."

There is still more than a week left of the Paris Olympics, which don't conclude until August 12.
