According to TMZ, Miller was arrested earlier in June. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, both of which are misdemeanors. He secured his release on a $5,000 bond.
Miller has since submitted not guilty pleas on both charges. He is due back in court for a hearing on July 29.
According to the state, misdemeanor charges in Idaho have possible penalties of up to a year in county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
An Alpine skier, Miller competed in the Olympic Games several times while representing the United States. He won two silver medals during the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah — one in the giant slalom and the other in the combined event.
The professional skier then competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. He did not win a medal that year, but he rebounded in a major way during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Miller won a gold medal for the first time in his Olympic career when he took the super combined event in 2010. He added a bronze medal in the downhill event and a silver medal in the super-G (super giant slalom).
The longtime skier returned to the Olympic Games for the final time in 2014. He competed in Sochi, Russia, and he won a bronze medal in the super-G event.
Miller continued to achieve significant success away from the Olympics. He won 33 World Cup events, and he won the overall title in both 2005 and 2008. He won six discipline titles spanning super-G, giant slalom, and combined.
Miller retired from competitive skiing in 2017. He then spent time with NBC while working as an analyst for Olympic skiing broadcasts.
