Éric Denis, a wrestler from the ICW Fighting Federation, died during a wrestling match on Sunday night in Montreal after suffering a heart attack, according to the French media outlet TVA Nouvelles through Google translate.
Denis, 40, collapsed in the ring during the event and received resuscitation from witnesses nearby before EMTs arrived on the scene. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.
Sunday's event was held in the basement of the Church of Most Holy Redeemer and raised money for the ICW Crohn's disease Foundation.
Denis, who had been involved in the wrestling world for more than 20 years, was described by fellow wrestler Danny Kidman as an "extremely talented" wrestler, as well as a "super father." He is survived by six children.
ICW will hold a tribute in his honor at its next fight gala on Saturday.
