Owens won the belt from Chris Jericho back in May, just days after dropping the belt to Jericho at Payback.
Owens defeating Styles by count out at Backlash, but the loss at Madison Square Garden ends his 67-day reign.
The win is Styles' first title victory since losing the WWE title to John Cena back at the Royal Rumble in January.
