In a stunner, the New Day defeated the Usos in the kickoff match of the Smackdown Live brand-exclusive PPV Battleground Sunday evening to win the tag team titles.
This should be considered an upset, as the defending champions were favored heading into the pay-per-view that's taking place in Philadelphia, PA. Sunday night.
This match had it all, as the crowd was incredibly hot for the New Day, who were decked out in American gear for a PPV that's essentially become the modern version of the Great American Bash.
The Usos, who have excelled in revitalizing their characters taking opposing tag teams to their proverbial jail, got a lot of heat in a match where the crowd wasn't going to be happy with another heelish exit from the Usos to retain.
This needed to have a clean finish, and it did. It got time, and everybody shined. Xavier Woods, who has gotten more in-ring opportunities on Smackdown Live, was all over the place, and continues to show promise as a potential midcard champion down the road.
The Usos put on a show, and were the dominant, more cohesive tag team, but they fell short and WWE finally gave fans what they wanted: The New Day back on top of the tag team division.
