Former WWE champion officially undergoes surgery

We hope he'll have a speedy recovery.

WWE superstar Dean Ambrose reportedly underwent successful surgery on his injured right arm in Birmingham earlier this week, according to WWE.com.

Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, who performed the 40-minute procedure, confirmed that the former WWE Champion suffered a triceps tear.

"He tore some of the distal triceps tendon where it attaches to the forearm bone, called the olecranon," Dr. Dugas told WWE.com. "He basically tore about 50 percent of the triceps tendon away from the bone. So yesterday we repaired that back down to the bone where it tore off of. The surgery was very straightforward; we removed all of the extra bursal tissue — all of that extra swollen stuff around his elbow."

Dugas revealed that Ambrose has already started his physical therapy, which began with light range-of-motion exercises and was expected to return home from Birmingham on Wednesday. However, his timetable for a return to the ring has yet to be determined.

For context, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis suffered a similar triceps injury in 2012 and was expected to miss 3-4 months, but returned to the gridiron in less than two, although many accused the former All-Pro of using a banned substance in order to speed up the process.

Ambrose was recently reunited with his original main roster faction, The Shield, and has specifically been working tag-team matches alongside Seth Rollins. During his absence, Jason Jordan is rumored to replace the Lunatic Fringe as Rollins' tag-team partner at house shows, according to Cageside Seats.
