WWE Smackdown Live!: Results for Tuesday, June 27

  • Smackdown Live opens with a bang as Daniel Bryan starts things off with a big promo with former Ms. MITB Carmella and James Ellsworth. In a heated promo, where Carmella makes very valid points about the match itself and having her briefcase taken away, Bryan kicks Ellsworth out of the arena to cap off an entertaining opening segment.
  • Next up we have the Hype Bros vs. The Usos, and this match doesn't go nearly as long as expected. Last week, The New Day and The Usos had a segment along with a singles match that took up almost a third of the show. This week, The Usos take down the Hype Bros quickly and quietly in a very tame match. Afterwards, The New Day come out and a rematch for the Smackdown Live tag team titles is set at Backlash.
  • In what has to be the highlight of the night, the Fashion Police have another fantastic segment, this time with The Ascension in an interrogation room. This might be the best this duo has looked and showed, they, too, have some comedic chops. These segments should continue every week forever.

  • Next up in perhaps the biggest surprise of the night, Naomi took on Lana for the Smackdown Live women's title. Lana hits her finisher early in the match, only to lose almost immediately after in an odd squash. This feud continues to get stranger and it doesn't feel like this is the last time we'll see these two go one-on-one in the not-too-distant future.
  • Randy Orton then comes out and interrupts Aiden English to talk about his Jinder Mahal Problem, only to be interrupted by Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. Orton wants Mahal for Round 3 and it's going to happen at Battleground when the two face off for the WWE title in a Punjabi Prison match.
  • Baron Corbin then defeats Sami Zayn in another surprisingly short match that saw Mr. MITB get the victory over Zayn after hitting the End of Days.
  • The Smackdown Live women's MITB ladder match is the main event and it gets the last thirty minutes of the program. The storytelling in this match is impressive, as Carmella comes off looking great, while the other four competitors are continually distracted by another.
  • JAMES ELLSWORTH!
  • Carmella, after a slight tease of a Becky Lynch or Tamina victory, ultimately knocks Lynch down with some chair shots, climbs the ladder and becomes Ms. MITB x2. This was the expected result, but it's still the right move as Carmella just works as a MITB briefcase holder.
