"100 Days to Indy" Gets Green Flag for Second Season

Season 2 of "100 Days to Indy," a six-part unscripted series from Penske Entertainment, has been announced by the CW Network and will be returning later this spring. The series provides a behind-the-scenes look at IndyCar and the path to the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

"We are thrilled to bring another season of '100 Days to Indy' to The CW and continue to grow our portfolio of quality sports programming," said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at the CW Network. "Last season gave fans an unprecedented look into the lives and preparation of these incredible drivers, which made it even more exciting when one of the series' stars, Josef Newgarden, crossed the finish line first to become last year's Indy 500 winner."

IndyCar did not announce a release date, but a series official confirmed that the episodes would form "well with good cadence leading into the Indy 500." A year ago, Episode 1 aired April 27, just over month ahead of the May 28 Indianapolis 500.

"Nothing matches the show-stopping, high-octane intensity of the Indy 500," said Mark Miles, president and CEO of Penske Entertainment. "The CW will once again give viewers a front row seat as the charismatic stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES chase racing glory. It should be a thrilling ride and an extremely compelling watch for viewers around the country."

IndyStar noted that Season 1 came away with some mixed reviews, "as it attempted to walk the fine line of drawing in new fans that were largely unfamiliar with the series ... while producing a product that long-time fans could enjoy, too."

"With 34 drivers to follow, along with 12 teams and dozens of great storylines among them, the show, at times, came off a bit disjointed," IndyStar said. "It tried to tackle a lot in a six-episode stint: Educate viewers, dive into the unique personalities and cover the drama of the five races leading into the 500."

According to Racer.com, all six episodes garnered a total of 1,161,000 viewers.

Meanwhile, Netflix's "Drive to Survive" returns for its sixth season on Feb. 23. Netflix's new NASCAR show, "NASCAR Full Speed," debuted in late January.

Season 1 of "100 Days to Indy" will be available to stream on Paramount+ beginning Feb. 16.

The IndyCar Series season kicks off on March 10 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
