Rick Ware Racing announced on Tuesday that Tim Brown will drive the No. 15 Ford Mustang and will attempt to qualify for the Clash exhibition event on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025. If he secures a spot in the lineup, Brown will compete in the top-tier NASCAR series for the first time.

Brown, 53, competes in the Tour Type Modified division at the flat, quarter-mile asphalt oval in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has set numerous records at Bowman Gray Stadium during his racing career. This includes the most wins (101), most championships (12), and most poles (146).

Brown also holds the record for the fastest lap ever recorded at Bowman Gray Stadium (12.965 seconds on April 30, 2016).

"As someone who understands what it's like to try to achieve goals and move up the racing ladder, it's just a great opportunity for Tim and it's something we're proud to do," team owner Rick Ware said in a statement.

"We've had the opportunity to give a lot of drivers their first Cup start, and this is one that's very well-deserved, especially at this track."

The racing veteran will be able to make his Cup Series qualifying attempt due to his connection to Rick Ware Racing. He works full-time for the team as a suspension and drivetrain specialist. Brown works on the cars that he will now drive.

"I've worked my whole life to try to be a Cup driver," Brown said in a statement. "I'm good with working on racecars for a living because it's still a pretty cool gig, but I always wanted to drive for a living.

"For Rick Ware and everybody involved here at RWR to give me the chance to go run a Cup race is so humbling and so heartwarming. It's really cool."

Brown will have a busy weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium in February. According to a press release, he will attempt to pull double duty while adjusting to the changes NASCAR has made ahead of the 2025 season.

Brown will race his Modified in the undercard Madhouse Clash on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. This will give him the opportunity to see how the SAFER barriers change the racing line at a track where he has thousands of laps of experience.
