The moment occurred as Camilo Trappa raced Juan Manuel Casella. Trappa made contact with Casella's car, hooking it to the left. The car went off-track and hit a dirt barrier before briefly launching into the air.

As the race car crashed, one of its Hankook tires flew off and into the air. It arced over a blue gazebo and slammed directly into the right arm of a man, who did not see the incident happen.

This man tumbled to the ground before standing once again. He survived the incident, something that is always a concern when flying tires are involved.

According to TYC Sports, the 53-year-old man received medical attention at the race track. He then went to Ramon Madariaga School Hospital. The outlet reports that he has been diagnosed with trauma to his right arm.

The accident occurred with about 10 minutes remaining in the race, which came to a halt after the tire hit the unsuspecting fan.

Casella exited the race uninjured. Meanwhile, the officials determined that Trappa was to blame for the crash that sent the tire flying.

He received a 20-second penalty, dropping him from fifth at the finish to 16th. This marked another setback for Trappa, whose team had to change an engine earlier in the day.

Once the race resumed, Nestor Girolami captured the win to kick off a weekend sweep. He held off reigning champion Leonel Pernia and Raphael Reis in the opening race. He then held off Fabian Yannantuoni and Tiago Pernia in the second race of the weekend.

The TC South America season will continue with the round at the Autodromo Municipal Juan Manuel Fangio in Rosario, Argentina. This round will take place on Nov. 6-8.
