According to an announcement on Friday, the company will make history with its Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck. This will be the first hybrid trophy truck to compete in the SCORE World Desert Championship.

The Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck features a 2.4-liter twin turbo V6 and 800-volt hybrid system, which Honda says is more powerful than the 9-liter V8 engines used in modern trophy trucks.

The twin turbo V6 is based on the engine from the Acura ARX-06 GTP prototype race car, which has helped competitors celebrate wins in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

The carbon-fiber body sits on an all-wheel chassis developed in collaboration with Mason Motorsports, the company that has won five consecutive SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year awards.

This particular Honda Passport will feature technology developed through the manufacturer's efforts in Formula 1, the NTT IndyCar Series, and IMSA.

This off-roader will make its debut through a partnership with Menzies Motorsports. Two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies will be in control as he seeks more race wins.

The stated goal from Honda Racing is clear — the company aims to win the 2027 Baja 1000 as the event celebrates its 60th anniversary. This annual off-road event takes place on the Baja California Peninsula while testing competitors over 850 or more miles.

Like the Dakar Rally in the Middle East, the Baja 1000 has multiple vehicle classes in which competitors can test themselves. This includes buggies, trophy trucks, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides.

Honda has already celebrated significant success in the off-road event, albeit in a different category. It is the winningest motorcycle manufacturer in Baja history with four Baja 1000 wins and five Baja 500 wins.

"The Honda Passport Baja Spec represents HRC's determination to push the boundaries of Baja desert racing, the ultimate test of off-road performance and durability," said Kelvin Fu, president of Honda Racing Corporation USA.

"We incorporated knowledge and technology from across global Honda racing programs to create the Honda Passport Baja Spec, a bold new approach to desert racing, and HRC is excited to show the world what it can do."
