How to watch Las Vegas Cup race: Start time, TV, weather

The Cup Series teams take on Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon to kick off the Round of 8 of the playoffs.

This is the second Las Vegas race for Cup teams this season. Kyle Larson has won the last two races at the 1.5-mile Nevada track.

If a playoff driver wins on Sunday afternoon, they will punch their ticket to the Championship 4. Larson and Joey Logano have both done this at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the Next Gen era.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway Cup Series race information

Weather: The WeatherUnderground forecast calls for mostly sunny skies throughout the day, a high of 70 degrees at the start of the Cup Series race, and no chance of rain.

Green flag time: UNLV head football coach Barry Odom will give the command to fire engines at 2:38 p.m. ET. Honorary starters Ray Mysterio and Braun Strowman will wave the green flag at 2:49 p.m. ET.

Starting lineup: Las Vegas starting lineup

Pre-race: The garage opens at 11:30 a.m. ET. Driver introductions will take place at 1:55 p.m. ET. Pre-race coverage begins with "Countdown to Green" on NBC at 2 p.m. ET. Race coverage continues on NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Stages: The race will consist of three stages. The first stage ends at Lap 80. The second stage ends at Lap 165. The scheduled end of the race is Lap 267.

Playoff picture: The Round of 12 ended last weekend with Larson's win at the Charlotte Roval. Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Alex Bowman, and Daniel Suarez were all eliminated from the playoffs.

Larson leads the playoff standings heading into the Round of 8. He is 33 points above the elimination line. Christopher Bell is 13 points above while Tyler Reddick is 10 points above. William Byron is four points above the Championship 4 cutline.

Reigning champion Ryan Blaney is the first driver below the cutline at -4. The other three drivers left in the playoffs are Denny Hamlin (-8), 2020 champion Chase Elliott (-9), and two-time champion Joey Logano (-11).

Past winners: Multiple Cup Series drivers have celebrated wins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Jimmie Johnson, who makes another start this weekend, leads the series with four wins at the 1.5-mile track. Larson, Logano, and Brad Keselowski all have three wins at Las Vegas.

Martin Truex Jr. has two wins at Las Vegas while Bowman, Byron, Hamlin, and Kyle Busch all have one win.
