IMS President completes lap around the Brickyard on a snowboard

The NASCAR and NTT IndyCar Series seasons have not yet started, but someone has already completed a lap around Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That person was track president Doug Boles, who used a unique form of transportation.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway posted a video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that showed Boles completing a lap. He rode a snowboard and held onto a rope as a vehicle towed him around the 2.5-mile track. Boles weaved back and forth across the racing surface while gliding over the fresh snow.

Boles, a noted fan of wakeboarding, showed his experience. He was not on the water, but he maneuvered around like a wakeboarder enjoying the summer activity. The IMS president just happened to wear winter attire while making these moves.

The snow at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the result of a winter storm moving through the Midwest and ultimately toward the Southeast. According to Weather.gov, Indianapolis had five new inches of snow on Jan. 5 and 2.8 inches of new snow on Jan. 6. The snow depth was seven inches on Jan. 8 and six inches on the morning of Jan. 9.

These weather conditions are not built for stock car racing — at least not in the traditional sense — but they create some unique opportunities. For Boles, in particular, he was able to take his snowboard onto the surface of the country's most prestigious venue.

Fortunately for the NTT IndyCar Series and NASCAR's national series, the weather will be more suited for racing by the time the teams head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The IndyCar Series will visit IMS multiple times in 2025 for pre-Indy 500 sessions. The teams will also compete at the track on two separate weekends in May. The road course will take center stage on May 10 and then the 2.5-mile oval will be the focus on May 25.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series teams will compete at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26 as they compete for an opportunity to kiss the iconic bricks. The Cup Series teams will compete on July 27 as drivers try to win one of NASCAR's crown jewels.
