Veteran racer and broadcaster Jack Harvey has announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer. He does not plan on letting it prevent him from racing in the Indianapolis 500 or continuing in his role at Fox Sports.

Harvey, who splits time between the race car and the pits, announced the cancer diagnosis with a post across his social media channels.
"My entire career has been about fighting for what's next," Harvey wrote. "The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself. The next time I could get back in the car and show what I'm capable of.
"There have been moments when the path forward was obvious, and plenty when it wasn't. I've had to earn opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to keep moving when things didn't go the way I planned.
"But through it all, I've never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for. Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer."

Harvey said that the cancer diagnosis has not changed his plans. He still has every intention of being on the starting grid for the season-opening race on the streets of St. Petersburg. He also plans to be on the grid for the Indianapolis 500.
The veteran racer said that he is receiving considerable support from those around, including the NTT IndyCar Series, as he prepares for this fight.
A native of England, Harvey has contended for championships throughout his racing career. He has 10 titles to his name, including the 2012 British Formula 3 title.
As an NTT IndyCar Series driver, he has made 95 starts while finishing on the podium at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. He now competes in the Indy 500 each season for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
Harvey remains invested in IndyCar, albeit in a different role. He works as a pit reporter and as an analyst for Fox Sports.
"Our entire team stands united in support of Jack as he begins his battle with cancer," Dreyer & Reinbold Racing said in a statement.
"More than a teammate, Jack is a valued member of our family, and our thoughts and unwavering support are with him and his loved ones as he faces this new challenge.
"We respectfully ask that Jack's privacy be honored as he focuses on his health and recovery."
