According to an announcement and the updated entry list, Burton will join Team AmeriVet for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway. He will drive the No. 50 Chevrolet Camaro while working with crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.

This race will mark Burton's Next Gen debut, as well as his third career Cup start at Phoenix Raceway.

The Virginia native has previous experience in the Cup Series, all in the Gen 6 era. He made 28 starts for BK Racing during the 2015 season and failed to qualify for the other eight. His best finish was 27th at Martinsville Speedway.

Burton made five more Cup starts between 2016-19 while driving for Go Fas Racing and Rick Ware Racing. His last Cup start was at Richmond Raceway in the spring of 2019.

The last five seasons have featured him competing in Xfinity. He made 11 starts in 2020 for JR Motorsports before spending the 2021 season with Kaulig Racing. This season featured Burton scoring his first Xfinity Series win at Talladega Superspeedway.

Burton spent one year with Our Motorsports (2022) and has since moved to Jordan Anderson Racing. He won for the second time at Talladega Superspeedway last season and made a return to the playoffs.

He now will join Team AmeriVet, a team that has fielded an entry for Ty Dillon during this season's Coca-Cola 600, and will try to quickly gain experience behind the wheel of NASCAR's new car.

The first on-track opportunity will be on Friday, Nov. 8. Cup Series teams will take part in practice at the 1-mile Arizona track. They will take part in qualifying on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The season finale race will then take place on Sunday, Nov. 10. Burton will compete in his first Cup race since 2019 while Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, William Byron, and Joey Logano battle for the Cup Series championship trophy.
