The seven-time Cup Series champion provided the update to Jayski during the race weekend at Phoenix Raceway. He did not provide the number of events but said the goal was to help the engineering department build a notebook.
"For 2025, we will make sure we use the (No. 84) car in the right capacity and in the right way so it doesn't take anything away from the (Nos.) 42 or the 43," Johnson told Jayski.
The race weekend at Phoenix Raceway marked Johnson's ninth time this season driving the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE. He finished 36th and two laps behind the leaders. This was his best finish in the Gen 7 car.
Johnson has 12 total starts in the No. 84 after taking over as a co-owner of Legacy Motor Club. His first three starts were in 2023, Legacy MC's final season as a Chevrolet team.
He was in contention for a solid finish during the 2023 Daytona 500 but finished 31st after a 12-car crash in the final stage. He also failed to finish races at Circuit of the Americas and Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Johnson finished seven of his nine Cup starts this season as Legacy Motor Club continued to build its notebook on the Toyota Camry XSE. His two DNFs were at Kansas Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He finished 28th in the Daytona 500, as well as at Dover Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Legacy Motor Club continues to push for improved performance. The team has made multiple changes, including the hiring of executives Jacob Canter and Bobby Kennedy.
According to an August announcement, Kennedy will serve as general manager and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Cup Series team. Canter will oversee the competition department as director of competition. Canter and Kennedy will both report directly to Chief Executive Officer Cal Wells III.
