Richard Childress Racing broke the news on Jan. 24 and revealed that Kahne will join its lineup at Rockingham Speedway. He will drive the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro during the Xfinity Series race on Saturday, April 19, as HendrickCars.com serves as his primary partner.

Kahne will also join the Richard Childress Racing lineup on Tuesday, Jan. 28, as the Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series teams take part in an organizational test at the historic track. 2025 marks the first time since 2013 that any of the national NASCAR series has competed there.

Kahne, an 18-time Cup winner, last competed in NASCAR during the 2018 season. He started 25 of the 36 races for Leavine Family Racing before medical issues ended his season. He has since shifted his focus to dirt while competing in World of Outlaws and then High Limit Racing.

"Kasey is a great driver and a fierce competitor," said Richard Childress, chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, in a statement.

"Our Xfinity Series program is top-notch, and we look forward to watching Kasey race with Austin (Hill) and Jesse (Love) for an exciting return to Rockingham Speedway. With Kasey behind the wheel, we expect the No. 33 to have a shot at winning the race."

Kahne is no stranger to the 1.017-mile track. The final Cup Series race there featured him finishing second to Matt Kenseth. He also competed in five Xfinity races and one Truck Series race at The Rock.

Kahne won the Truck race in 2012 after leading 46 of the 200 laps and holding off teammate James Buescher.

"I'm excited to get back behind the wheel of a stock car, especially at a place like Rockingham Speedway," Kahne said in a statement. "Rockingham has been a special track throughout my career. I remember winning the Truck Series race in 2012 when the sport went back there last, so to be a part of the current return is cool.

"Very appreciative of the opportunity that Mr. Hendrick, Richard, and everyone at RCR have given me, along with the support of HendrickCars.com, Chevrolet, Curb Records, and Karavan Trailers. I look forward to hitting the track next week for the test."
