During Sunday's Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, one fan in the crowd had a clever way of showing off his fandom. It wasn't exactly by wearing a specific driver's T-shirt, though.
No, he had a much simpler way of supporting NASCAR. He wore his own plain white shirt — on which he clearly wrote "NASCAR" with a black Sharpie.
It picked up plenty of coverage, even by NASCAR itself, which was all over it in a heartbeat. NASCAR posted his picture on its Instagram page.
It was a nice troll job by NASCAR, and it got plenty of people talking, including some drivers throughout all of the series in NASCAR.
ARCA Menards and Craftsman Truck series driver Toni Breidinger commented on the initial Instagram post, "Drop this heat." Truck racer Spencer Boyd also commented that he would totally rock the shirt.
No harm in a few jokes from NASCAR, but it certainly didn't make that fan feel bad. It later posted a video that showed the now-famous DIY NASCAR Guy being gifted with a real NASCAR shirt.
Along with the video, the NASCAR page also shared a comment:
"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him."
Hopefully, it is a moment that lucky fan will never forget. That is always the best part about NASCAR — it has some of the best fans in the world, and they are what keep the sport going.
