Ty Gibbs launching the No. 54 Toyota off of Justin Haley's No. 7 Chevrolet caught the attention of many people, including NASCAR's competition officials who will set a meeting with the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran confirmed on Tuesday, Feb. 4, that this meeting will take place before the season officially starts with Speedweeks and the Daytona 500.
"We know it's a tough place, and there's going to be some aggression and some good short-track racing, which is what we wanted," Moran said during an appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
"But yeah, I'll be having a discussion with Ty before we go on the track at Daytona, and just get his take on what happened and make sure we're clear (on) what we need from that point moving forward."
The incident occurred during the Last Chance Qualifying at Bowman Gray Stadium. Gibbs spun off the nose of Haley's No. 7 as the two drivers were racing for position. A second hit from Haley initially straightened the No. 54 back out, but Gibbs then turned back into Haley before fully spinning into the infield.
The incident did not end with the spins. Gibbs chased Haley back down under caution and hit the side of the No. 7. This launched the No. 54 into the air. It slammed back onto the racing surface and then Gibbs headed to the pit area.

"If I'm not going to the main event, you're not either," play-by-play man Mike Joy said about the incident as the Fox Sports crew watched the replay.
Media members asked Gibbs about the incident after his exit from the race. He responded by saying "I just had a little left-front damage and gave him a little tap." Gibbs noted that the landing was a little stiff.
With NASCAR meeting with Gibbs to discuss the incident, it's unlikely he will face any penalties to start the Cup Series season. However, there is a past precedent that could play a role.
NASCAR fined Bubba Wallace $50,000 for door-slamming Alex Bowman on the cooldown lap at Chicago last season. This was the same amount as the fine Daniel Suarez received at Circuit of the Americas in 2023 for running into Bowman on pit road with officials standing nearby.
