As it turns out, the disagreement came down to how he reacted after being spun by John Hunter Nemechek in the closing laps of the road course race.

"I got wiped out by the 42 (Nemechek). I don't know if TV caught that," Wallace told reporters at Dover Motor Speedway. "We were in potential for a top-10, top-12 day. I got wiped out following the 45 (Tyler Reddick).

"And when I put so much freaking effort into becoming a better road-course racer — I joke with you guys that I suck and I don't give a damn about road courses — I really do. It's a competitive nature and I push hard every time we get into the car and at that point in the race, everything was clicking."

As Wallace explained, he had judged himself against Reddick, one of the best road course racers in the series. Sometimes, his lap times beat Reddick's. Other times, he posted slightly slower times.

Still, Wallace believed he had an opportunity to score his second top-10 finish at Watkins Glen International. Yet, a spin started by Nemechek completely changed his day. He finished 29th.

"When that happens, you see freaking red and you don't care who is out there," Wallace continued. "You don't care if your wife and kids are out on the race track, you are going to race the dog (expletive) out of them because you had everything ripped away from you.

"The 35 (Riley Herbst) was in that mix, I raced the (expletive) out of him. The 20 (Christopher Bell) was in the mix, I raced the (expletive) out of him. Whoever else was in that mix, I didn't care just because my race was ruined 30 seconds beforehand.

"They have no idea, so I put myself in their shoes. What you see on pit road, C-Bell is pissed that I raced him so hard and that was simply me saying, 'I don't give a damn.' I just had my race ruined and so I'm going to race everyone hard. I don't care who it is."

The Fox Sports cameras caught Bell coming up to Wallace and essentially confronting him about being raced so hard. Bell thought that Wallace was simply fading on older tires instead of trying to recover from a spin.

They had a more intense conversation, but this didn't lead to any bad blood.

Wallace noted that he called Bell in the hours after the Watkins Glen race. They discussed everything that transpired at the road course and put the situation behind him. Now, they can both move on as Toyota teammates.
