According to an Aug. 19 announcement, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will once again host the Craftsman Truck Series teams. These teams will head to Bowmanville, Ontario, for a rare Sunday race.

They will compete on Sept. 5 while setting up the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway later in the day. NASCAR has not yet set the start time for the Truck Series race.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is a normal venue for the NASCAR Canada Series, but it has not hosted any of the national NASCAR series since the 2019 season.

The Craftsman Truck Series has visited the road course seven times. It first traveled north in 2013 as youngster Chase Elliott won.

The other Truck Series winners at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park included future Cup Series drivers in Ryan Blaney (2014), Erik Jones (2015), John Hunter Nemechek (2016), Austin Cindric (2017), and Justin Haley (2018).

Brett Moffitt won the final Truck Series race at the road course in 2019 after leading 44 of the 64 laps. This continued a four-win season for the defending champion.

Of course, the most memorable race at the road course took place in 2016. This race featured Nemechek and Cole Custer battling for the all-important win in the closing laps of the road course race.

If Custer won, he would secure a spot in the playoffs. If Nemechek won, he would earn more points ahead of the reset.

Custer had the lead through Turns 8 and 9, but Nemechek made some aggressive moves. He used the bumper on Custer exiting Turn 9, and then he appeared to try a left hook in Turn 10.

Custer kept the No. 00 pointed in the right direction, but Nemechek got to his inside coming into the final turn. They slammed doors as Nemechek sent both trucks off into the dirt.

They remained together while sliding across the finish line in the grass. Nemechek secured the win by being a nose ahead, but he did not have the opportunity to just go and grab the checkered flag. He suddenly turned as Custer came sprinting into view and slammed him into the ground.

More than 10 years later, the Truck Series teams will return to Canada and the road course. The fans will hope for more fireworks as the biggest names in the series compete.
