Championship in Hand, Frankie Muniz Seeks More in 2027

Frankie Muniz has not completed his 2026 racing schedule just yet, but he seeks even more opportunities in 2027 after winning a GT4 America AM Class title.

He plans to make more starts, score more wins, and potentially vie for another championship while suiting up in multiple racing series.

"Yeah, there's going to be a lot," Muniz told media members on Tuesday ahead of the Talladega weekend. "I did 42 races this year. I may beat that next year, which will be hard to do."

Muniz first moved into the sportscar world after a push from his manufacturer partner. He had no experience competing in a Ford Mustang on road courses all over the country while racing other manufacturers, nor did he regularly take part in events requiring a mid-race driver change.

Yet, he learned all of this essentially on the fly while adapting to a schedule so busy that he didn't do work in the simulator or on iRacing.

"I loved SRO (Motorsports Group America)," Muniz said. "I loved the different manufacturers competing against each other. I loved representing Ford — you know what I mean — in that world where you're in a Mustang versus McLarens versus BMW versus the Porsches and stuff like that. And that was really exciting to get the championship for myself and for Ford.

"I want to continue doing that, you know what I mean? I want to continue doing the sportscars. I would love to drive a GT3 car. Love to keep going in that world. I know there's some talks of that even for next year. So yeah, I will be there."

What will this schedule include? Muniz doesn't actually know just yet. He's still working through the details fresh off a jam-packed season. The pieces have to come together smoothly, and he needs the sponsorship to help in certain series.

He continues to work with his longtime backer, Ford Racing, while developing this schedule. He is receiving guidance about where to put his time and effort in 2027 after achieving success this season.

Sportscar dreams aside, what he made clear is that he is not abandoning the Craftsman Truck Series once he closes out this season with 46 career starts.

He still loves NASCAR, and he wants to continue driving for Team Reaume. It may just not be on a full-time basis in 2027 as he works in some more sportscar events.

"Racing a NASCAR car, racing the NASCAR Truck Series is the most exciting racing I've ever experienced," Muniz proclaimed.

"Like when you're in the car, driving the car is a little funny when you're by yourself because like it just doesn't really do anything very good. But when you're in the race, there's nothing cooler than that."

Muniz will have three more opportunities this season to embrace the cool experience of racing a Ford F-150 in the Truck Series. He will drive the No. 33 for Team Reaume at Talladega Superspeedway, Martinsville Speedway, and Homestead-Miami Speedway.

What happens after the season finale at Homestead remains a bit of a mystery to Muniz. He has some ideas and hopes, but he still has to put everything in place before officially making any announcements.
