It has now been established that the Charlotte Roval race will revert back to the oval for 2024.
Since 2018, NASCAR has taken Charlotte Motor Speedway and turned the track into a road course for it's fall race weekend. It looks like this year's race at the Charlotte Roval will be the last of its kind.
On an episode of "The Dale Jr Download", Dale Earnhardt Jr. talked about the possibility of Charlotte Motor Speedway getting rid of the roval.

"The mile and a half product for the next gen has been really good at places like Charlotte and Kansas," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Charlotte is so awesome that the Roval is going away, so they say. We could have two oval races back at Charlotte."
Before the next gen car, road courses were a hot commodity in the NASCAR Cup Series due to better racing and more exciting finishes for the fans to enjoy. Since 2017, the Cup Series schedule has gone from two to six road courses on the schedule.
Since the creation of the next gen car, the road course racing has not been as exciting to watch because passing on the road courses has become difficult. As an example, the top 12 positions did not change in the final 16 laps at Watkins Glen.
The opposite can be said for the next gen car when it comes to racing on the 1.5 mile tracks. Before the next gen car's debut, the racing on those tracks did not generate the same excitement levels as short tracks and road courses. Now, with the next gen cars, 1.5 mile tracks may feature the most compelling racing NASCAR has to offer.
Time will tell if this change by Charlotte Motor Speedway to go back to two races on the oval layout is a sign of things to come. This could lead to NASCAR having more speedway races as opposed to road course races.
