NASCAR sent all of the cars out in one group due to morning rainfall creating a constantly changing racing surface. Shane van Gisbergen, who called his car terrible, posted the fastest lap during the qualifying session (71.165 seconds).
This marked his first pole win of the season and the fifth of his career. This is the first time he's won the pole at Watkins Glen for a Cup Series race.
Michael McDowell qualified second with a lap of 71.424 seconds. This is his best starting position of the season and his fifth top-10 start at Watkins Glen International.

Austin Cindric qualified third with a lap of 71.445 seconds. He was the fastest driver during the Saturday afternoon practice session.
The rest of the top 10 included Ross Chastain (71.449), Connor Zilisch (71.483), Joey Logano (71.522), Ryan Blaney (71.523), Christopher Bell (71.582), Chase Briscoe (71.583), and Ty Gibbs (71.615).
The drivers who qualified 10th through 20th included Carson Hocevar (71.620), AJ Allmendinger (71.654), William Byron (71.664), Chris Buescher (71.668), Tyler Reddick (71.699), Daniel Suarez (71.723), John Hunter Nemechek (71.739), Bubba Wallace (71.755), Cole Custer (71.847), and Denny Hamlin (71.854).
Katherine Legge qualified last at the track where she previously won in IMSA. Her No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet failed inspection two times, and the team did not have an opportunity to take part in practice. She used the qualifying session as practice for Sunday's race.
The Cup Series drivers will take on Watkins Glen International on Sunday afternoon. The pre-race coverage will begin with NASCAR RaceDay at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1. The race coverage will continue at 3 p.m. ET on FS1. Mike Joy, Clint Bowyer, and Kevin Harvick will call the action from the booth.
