Denny Hamlin Experiences a First in His Long Driving Career

As a racecar driver, there isn't time to pull over and visit the bathroom. So when you have to go, you do.

That was an exact scenario that Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin found himself in during the Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway this past weekend.

Hamlin revealed that he had no choice on the matter, as he admitted it was a first for him during this week's episode of Actions Detrimental.

"For the first time in my whole career ... 19 years, peed my seat," Fox News' Ryan Gaydos quotes Hamlin as saying. "I was hurting. I was so thirsty the second half of the race, but I couldn't drink anymore because my body, I was just sitting there in my seat saying, 'Let it go. Let it go.' And I just couldn't let it go."

Hamlin was trying so hard to convince himself to let it go, and the problem only got worse with the number of caution flags and a red flag lengthening the time he was in the car.

"I just couldn't let it go. I just have never been able to go in the car," Hamlin said. "There's something about it ... something just doesn't feel right to my body and it just hangs on."

Hamlin however quickly realized the pain was too much on his stomach, his bladder couldn't take anymore.

"My stomach is killing me. I ain't gotta go #2, I gotta go #1. But I just... my bladder is just dying," Hamlin said. "I get to pit road, and they're working on the damage, and I just close my eyes and I'm like, just trying to think of something that will make me go. And then as soon as I got the first dribble, boom. It was warm and then it was cold. I never felt what it felt like to pee in my seat. But I kinda liked it. Is that weird?"

Hamlin got a little carried away at the end there in the TMI department, but given how exciting that race was, you can only imagine the relief he felt.

Hamlin's race had plenty of adventures as he got caught up in a handful of incidents during the 260-lap race. He got to the front a couple of times but wasn't a factor during the race —No. 11 went No. 1 but finished 23rd.
