Denny Hamlin Offers Teammate Advice On Feud

Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs had quite a heated confrontation at Gibbs' No. 54 team's hauler last weekend after the Busch Light Clash.

It has been taking the sport by storm even before the teams have gotten to Daytona for the Daytona 500. Logano walked up to Gibbs after the race to show his displeasure with the way the 21-year-old raced him during the exhibition race at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Denny Hamlin, who won the Clash, has an opinion about what went down with Logano and Gibbs and how the simmering rivalry might get settled.

Hamlin took time on this week's episode of "Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin" to address several incidents from the Busch Light Clash, including his teammate Gibbs' run-in with Logano.

"Ty was saying, 'Hey, come on in the hauler. let's do this privately.' And Joey did not want to do it," Hamlin said. "He wanted to do it right there on the lift gate. And so that opened it up a little bit more. Do I think this was kind of a 'I'm trying to scare-you tactic?' Yeah, probably. I just think that Ty wasn't going to take any s***. And you kinda heard it from his reaction. Like, 'So what? Go for it.'"

Hamlin then offered a little advice to his younger teammate.

"And that's just a dangerous game to play on both sides. Right? Because your season hasn't even started, and you got two guys that are angry at each other. Again, when both of them are just fine wrecking each other, that's not going to be good for either one. So, they gotta get it worked out somehow. My advice, I actually said to Ty, and I said this on the podcast last year, was to be the first one to extend the olive branch. If he doesn't pay back that, it's free game."

Logano and Gibbs have had problems previously. The pair had a run-in at Martinsville last October, where Logano spun Gibbs.

Hamlin knows a thing or two about on-track incidents. He has had his own problems with Logano in the past, especially when they were teammates from 2009-2012. He also knows how best to diffuse a situation, so Gibbs might be wise to follow Hamlin's advice and make peace with Logano. If Logano doesn't want any of it, then it's game-on for one of NASCAR's brewing rivalries.
