According to the weekly paint scheme preview from Hendrick Motorsports, Justin Allgaier will drive the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro this weekend while pulling double duty. The car will continue to have Ally as the primary sponsor.

The team deleted the page listing Allgaier as the relief driver but ultimately released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming the change.

"Alex continues to work closely with doctors toward being medically cleared, but he's still experiencing some lingering symptoms," said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports.

"He's put a lot into the recovery process, and we will continue to support him every step of the way. Our priority remains making sure Alex is fully ready before returning to the race car."

Bowman, 32, first began experiencing symptoms the day of the Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas. He completed the first two stages of the race but had to pull into the garage as the end approached. He exited the car and went to the infield care center while Myatt Snider finished the race in relief.

Hendrick Motorsports turned to another for the race weekend at Phoenix Raceway. The team put Anthony Alfredo in the No. 48 Chevrolet. Alfredo is the team's full-time simulation driver.

The Connecticut driver started the Cup Series race at the rear of the field. He worked his way inside the top 20 during the final stage of the race, but he ended the day in 33rd place after being caught up in a multi-car crash started by Joey Logano and Ross Chastain.

Allgaier is a familiar face at Hendrick Motorsports. He has made a previous start for the team, albeit for a different reason.

He finished 13th in the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 in 2023. He replaced Kyle Larson, who could not get back from the Indianapolis 500 in time for the Cup Series race due to rain delays.

Now, Allgaier will serve as the replacement driver for Bowman. He will follow Josh Berry and Noah Gragson, who both served as replacement drivers when Bowman recovered from injuries.
