Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who died Thursday at age 41, made the remark after winning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Dover Motor Speedway on May 15 — what would ultimately become the final victory of his career.

After the race, Fox Sports reporter Amanda Busick asked Busch why winning still meant so much after all these years.

"Because you never know when the last one is," Busch replied.

The moment quickly resurfaced across social media following news of Busch's death.

At the time, the comment sounded like the reflection of a veteran driver who understood how difficult winning had become late in his career. Now, many fans and drivers see it differently.

Busch's victory at Dover was vintage form. Driving the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado, he swept both stages, led 147 of 200 laps and captured his 69th career Truck Series victory. He also became the first driver in Truck Series history to surpass 1,000 laps led at a single track.

The Dover win would stand as Busch's final victory across NASCAR's three national touring series.

One of the sport's most accomplished drivers, Busch won 234 races combined across the Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series during a career that spanned more than two decades. He captured Cup championships in 2015 and 2019 and was widely regarded as one of the defining NASCAR drivers of his era.

Busch had continued racing regularly in the Truck Series in recent years and had previously spoken about extending his career long enough to eventually compete alongside his son, Brexton.

Instead, his final win became one final reminder of both his longevity and his greatness.
