Layne Riggs Ready To Showoff in Truck Series

NASCAR Racing is in the DNA of Layne Riggs, as he spent plenty of years growing up at race tracks all across the country.

The son of Scott Riggs, who was a staple in the NASCAR garage for years across all three major series, Layne didn't pay much attention to what his dad did, only knowing that he raced a car for a living. Then again, Layne thought everyone's dad did.

According to a recent interview with Kelly Crandall from Racer.com, Layne fondly remembers one thing about growing up around the racetrack. It was a pre-race must for Layne to stand in his dad's seat trying to look over the dashboard.

"That was the one thing I always wanted to do every week," he says. "I remember one time, mom walked me over to the car and I got in it and a security guard came over yelling at us, and we had to explain. For some reason that sticks in my head."

By the time his dad's career in NASCAR came to an end in 2014, Layne's interest in racing was heating up, and luckily for him, his dad has been with him every step of the way.

Now Layne has a huge opportunity in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The 21-year-old has signed a multi-year deal to become the driver of the No. 38 Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports. This is Layne's first full-time opportunity and he didn't hold back about his excitement to reach the national level at last.

"It's been amazing," Layne said. "It's more of a relief than excitement. It's very exciting to get to do it, I'm very excited looking at the schedule and seeing all the tracks. It's also just a huge relief for me because I've been racing for so long trying to get to this level. I think that step between the grassroots and the national level is the hardest one to do, and I finally have the opportunity to do so."

Layne has made starts in the Trucks and Xfinity Series and showed off some natural talent, yet he hasn't had a full opportunity to this point. Front Row Motorsports has had an eye for finding talent, given they have produced the likes of Zane Smith and Todd Gilliland to the Cup Series.

Given that Smith piloted the No. 38 to six victories in two years and won the 2022 Truck Championship, Layne knows he's stepping into a great ride.

"It's a great group of people; they're all determined just like me," Layne says."Dylan (Cappelo) is a young, new guy ... hungry, and wants to go prove himself and win races. I'm young, hungry, and want to prove myself and win races. We both have the same mindset and are at the same level in our careers. We just want to prove to everybody we're the best combination there is out there. It's been great."
