The Legacy Motor Club lineup is finally complete. The team has named the third driver who will compete full-time during the 2027 Cup Series season.

The team announced the news on Tuesday afternoon on its fan-focused "Club Pass." Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson, the team's majority owner, informed fans that Josh Berry will drive the No. 42 Toyota Camry XSE during the 2027 season.
John Hunter Nemechek currently drives the No. 42 Toyota, but the team announced last week that it would part ways with him after the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The three-car lineup will now feature Berry in the No. 42 Toyota, veteran Erik Jones in the No. 43, and newcomer Riley Herbst in the No. 35. Herbst will join the team after moving from 23XI Racing, while Berry will join after moving from Wood Brothers Racing.
A one-time winner in the Cup Series, Berry is currently in his third full-time season in the Cup Series. He spent 2024 with Stewart-Haas Racing and the past two seasons with Wood Brothers Racing.
He is currently on a historic run for WBR with six consecutive top-10 finishes. Berry is the first driver to post six consecutive top-10s for WBR since David Pearson during the 1976 season.
"Josh is a proven competitor who has earned everything through hard work and getting his hands dirty," Johnson said in a press release.
"What stands out about Josh is his ability to manage the big picture behind the wheel — his experience, perspective and wisdom. His career has been built on that foundation, and I know he will have a meaningful impact here. We're thrilled to have him at Legacy."
Legacy Motor Club is able to bring in Berry for multiple reasons, one of which is some assistance from RFK Racing driver Ryan Preece.
Johnson's team has an agreement in place to purchase a charter from Rick Ware Racing ahead of the 2027 season. This particular charter is currently being leased to RFK Racing, and it will greatly increase in value after the season.
Preece won at Daytona International Speedway and locked up a spot in the Chase on both the driver's side and owner's side. Charter value takes into account three years of Cup Series racing, and this season will feature the charter inside of the top 16.
"The stronger that number is, especially when you get into next year, there's the three-year average that feeds one of those hay buckets," Johnson told media members last week. "You know, that's all helpful. It's better than it running around the back of the pack.
"So at least for this season where it's going to finish is going to be higher than our two cars did, and of course, last year as well. So there is a monetary difference there that helps us continue to scale."
