Legacy Motor Club continues to push for greatness with the announcement it is adding NASCAR Hall of Famer and 2003 Cup Series champion Matt Kenseth in a mentor role.
With Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek set as the drivers for 2024, team owner Jimmie Johnson is looking for other resources for his young drivers to lean on for guidance.
The move was first reported by Kelly Crandall from RACER. Kenseth's official title will be "competition advisor."

Legacy Motor Club welcomed Kenseth to the family on its X page. The team's 2024 move to Toyota — along with this addition of Kenseth — should pay off wonders for Jones, a three-time Cup winner, and Nemechek, who is currently one of the favorites to win this season's Xfinity Series championship.
Adding Kenseth to a team that features two seven-time Cup champions—Johnson and Richard Petty—in its ownership group should make the team stronger and help it begin to live up to the name Legacy.
In a press release from the team, Kenseth expressed his excitement about his new role and was thankful for the opportunity from Johnson to work with such great talent.
"Jimmie and I have so much respect for each other as both competitors and friends — we are alike in many ways and at similar points in our careers," Kenseth said. "This is a great opportunity for me to be a resource for two extremely talented drivers and help on the racing operations side with this transition to Toyota. I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together."
Johnson welcomed Kenseth and shared some kind words about what he brings to the team.
"Not only is Matt an excellent driver and a fierce competitor, he's also a great friend," Johnson said in the same press release. "This alliance makes so much sense. Matt is extremely smart, has worked with Toyota while racing for Joe Gibbs Racing, and is still as competitive as ever. He's a natural-born athlete and as fit as I have ever seen him. I'm so glad he is willing to share his knowledge and experience with us, and we look forward to all Matt has to offer."
It's clear Legacy has big goals for its future; the addition of Kenseth should only bring those goals closer to reality.
