Many Changes Atop NASCAR Spotters' Stand in 2024

NASCAR silly season does not just involve the drivers, as there are many changes going on atop the spotters' stand in 2024.

On the latest episode of Dirty Mo Media's "Door Bumper Clear," it was announced that there are at least 13 spotter changes for the 2024 season - that's roughly one-third of the NASCAR Cup Series teams who will employ new spotters next year. Spotters play a vital role in a NASCAR team. Positioned high above the racetrack, they serve as the eyes and ears of the drivers and provide their drivers with important race information, including the position of other cars, updates to race strategy and warnings of wrecks on the racetrack.

Headlining the spotter changes are the departures of Josh Williams from Ryan Blaney and Eddie D'Hondt from Chase Elliott. Josh Williams will be heading over to Spire Motorsports to spot for Cup Series rookie, Zane Smith. Replacing Williams will be Tim Fedewa, longtime spotter for Kevin Harvick. D'Hondt has yet to announce where he will be spotting in 2024, but the rumors point to him spotting for Josh Berry in the No. 4 car for Stewart-Haas Racing. His replacement is expected to be Elliott's cousin, Trey Poole. Poole has served as the team's second spotter at road courses. Along with that duty, Poole served as Elliott's spotter in 2021 when D'Hondt was suspended.

Joining Williams at Spire Motorsports will be Tyler Green. Green will serve as the spotter for Cup Series rookie, Carson Hocevar. Green has spotted for Hocevar in the Craftsman Truck Series, he previously was the spotter for Kurt Busch at Chip Ganassi Racing and he spotted for Harrison Burton and the Wood Brothers for the past two seasons.

Ryan Blanchard will earn his first spotting gig with John Hunter Nemechek and Legacy Motor Club. Blanchard served as Tyler Reddick's third spotter in 2023 and now he is getting the bump up to full time in 2024.

Another secondary spotter at 23XI Racing, Brent Wentz, is in talks of potentially spotting for a Cup Series driver full time, however it is unclear as to who it will be.

The No. 10 car will also see a new spotter. Joel Edmonds was the spotter of the 10 car when Aric Almirola drove it. Edmonds is going to follow Almirola and spot for him during his races in the Xfinity Series. Replacing Edmonds at Stewart-Haas Racing will be Andy Houston.

Dale Jarrett's son, Jason Jarrett, is leaving his spotting duties at Kaulig Racing behind. His 2024 plans have not yet been announced.

There are still a few other changes that also haven't been announced, but the last few pieces of the puzzle will be figured out before the teams head to Los Angeles for the Clash in February.
