No driver can ever predict their future, and that clearly is on the mind of Martin Truex Jr. as he prepares for the 2024 season.
Retirement rumors swirled throughout the 2023 season for Truex, as many pondered his future at Joe Gibbs Racing. Truex had a much stronger season last year with three wins after a winless 2022.
Those rumors of retirement went a long way during last year, but they were eventually settled by Truex, as he returns to the No.19 Toyota for this season.
Truex enters 2024 at 43 years old and many will likely start the rumor mills early about Truex's Cup future after this season. Older drivers have been hanging it up every year, like Kevin Harvick did after the 2023 season. Truex is one of the older drivers in the garage, so it's hard for there not to be speculation.
And the 2025 season is going to see a lot of big changes, from new TV deals to the next Charter agreement. There will likely be a major shift across the sport, and some of the older drivers might not be hanging around much longer.
It's too early for drivers like Truex to know what their future holds after this season, but Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass wanted to know, so he asked him.
And so it begins … At the FOX Sports production days last week, Martin Truex Jr. had a prediction for what question he expects to hear from reporters like myself for several months (yes, months) in 2024. pic.twitter.com/bnp0GiO2Nj

Though Truex wasn't too fond of the question asked of him.
"I mean, come on," Truex said. It's January. It's January."
He and Pockrass had a little fun back and forth but Truex later followed up on Pockrass's question, all but guaranteeing that it's going to be a much longer wait to know for sure what Truex's plans are for 2025 and beyond.
"I can tell you it's probably going to take even longer this year to figure it out," Truex said. "So, you might have to wait until September. I'll let you know when I know."
The new season hasn't even started and he's getting questioned about his future already, the speculation on this is going to be there all year long.
