According to a press release from Charlotte Motor Speedway, 10 helicopter pilots will join the pre-race ceremonies to perform a flyover during the national anthem. They will help set the stage for a NASCAR Cup Series elimination race.

These are not just any helicopter pilots, however. These brave individuals were among those who saw the devastation of Hurricane Helene, and they jumped at the opportunity to help however they could. They delivered supplies and aid to residents of Western North Carolina and the surrounding states.

Additionally, former NASCAR Cup Series driver Greg Biffle will take part in the ceremonies in a different way. He will be the honorary starter that kicks off the pivotal playoff race.

Biffle has worked nonstop in the days and weeks since Hurricane Helene. He delivered supplies all across Western North Carolina, including to someone trapped in the mountains who signaled Biffle with a large mirror. He also worked with numerous companies to facilitate the delivery of gasoline, diesel, and clothes.

"As we prepare for Sunday's Bank of America Roval 400, we do so with all of those impacted by recent storms still in our thoughts," said Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager Greg Walter in a statement.

"The outpouring of support for those in need across western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene was swift and widespread. Among those who immediately sprang to action were these pilots, many of whom have ties to NASCAR. It is a privilege to be able to recognize and honor them."

The entire industry continues to provide support for those affected by Hurricane Helene. Charlotte Motor Speedway has been a hub for supply donations, and it has been the base where big rigs have loaded up before heading west into the mountains.

The race teams and drivers have also provided support however they could. 23XI Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, JR Motorsports, and Kaulig Racing are only some examples of the teams that have collected supplies. Drivers like Joey Logano and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have made donations.
