According to court documents that TMZ obtained, the actor seeks to terminate his child support payments to ex-wife Kimberly Buffington now that their twin children are graduating from high school.
The 72-year-old star, who currently appears in AMC's upcoming NASCAR drama Thunder Road, reportedly pays $13,750 per month in child support, along with additional payments tied to his income.
Quaid's daughter, Zoe, graduated from high school on May 23, while her twin brother, Thomas, graduated on June 3.
Because both children have now reached adulthood and are completing high school, Quaid is asking the court to confirm that his child support obligations should end following their respective graduation dates.
He's also seeking clarification regarding additional support payments tied to his earnings. According to the filing, Quaid wants those payments calculated only through the dates his children graduated rather than using his full annual income.
The actor and Buffington were married for 14 years before finalizing their divorce in 2018. The split followed a lengthy legal process after the couple initially separated and later reconciled before ultimately ending the marriage.
Quaid has previously addressed the issue of child support in court, indicating that he was willing to make additional payments when appropriate but wanted any calculations to be reasonable and tied to his fluctuating income.
Beyond his family life, Quaid has remained active in Hollywood for decades, starring in films such as The Parent Trap, The Rookie and The Day After Tomorrow.
Now, however, the Oscar-nominated actor is focused on resolving one final legal matter tied to raising his children.
If the court agrees, Quaid's child support payments could soon come to an end.
