NASCAR Driver Attempting 1,101-Mile Challenge at Charlotte

Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway will feature another driver attempting to complete a significant challenge. Ross Chastain will aim to win at least one race while racing for 1,101 miles across three days.

The defending Coca-Cola 600 winner will suit up for all three national NASCAR series races at the sport's home track while driving for three different teams.

Chastain will kick off the weekend by reuniting with Niece Motorsports on Friday, May 22. He will make his sixth Truck Series start of the season, and he will try to be in contention for the win all 201 miles while driving the No. 45 Chevrolet.

The Florida native will then make his seventh O'Reilly Auto Parts Series start of the season and his third for JR Motorsports on Saturday, May 23. He will try to complete all 300 miles of racing while contending for the win in the No. 9 Chevrolet.

Chastain will then close out the weekend with the Coca-Cola 600 Cup Series race on Sunday, May 24. He will drive his normal No. 1 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing while trying to complete the 600-mile race and win his second crown jewel.

He won last season's Coca-Cola 600 after leading eight laps. He started last in a backup car and steadily worked his way to the front of the pack.

This will be a marathon weekend for Chastain, but he will take on the challenge while continuing his pursuit of at least 56 national series starts this season.

This 1,101-mile challenge will also present Chastain with an opportunity to take care of some unfinished business. He has secured two wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway in his racing career.

He won the Cup Series race last season, and he won the Truck Series race in 2022 after Carson Hocevar wrecked Ryan Preece during the first overtime attempt.

Yet, he does not have an O'Reilly Auto Parts Series win at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chastain has made 11 starts at the 1.5-mile track in the secondary NASCAR series. His best finish was fourth in the 2020 race.

Chastain is not the only driver facing a major challenge this weekend. Multiple drivers are pulling double duty in NASCAR series, including Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen. Katherine Legge is trying to become only the second person in history to complete The Double — the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
