NASCAR Names Daytona 500 Grand Marshal

The 66th running of "The Great American Race" will be headlined by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson giving the command to start engines on Feb. 18.

"It's about to get Fast and Furious as @TheRock is this year's Grand Marshal for the #Daytona500," Daytona International Speedway posted on social media.

This will be Johnson's second appearance being the grand marshal at a NASCAR Cup Series race. Back in 2004, Johnson was the grand marshal for the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The race was held April 4 that year and had 216,000 people in attendance.

Johnson is currently under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and there are plans for him to have a match against Roman Reigns. Between wrestling and acting, Johnson is also the co-owner of the United Football League. The UFL was originally the XFL, but a merger between the USFL and XFL turned both leagues into one league called the UFL.

The famous actor and WWE superstar will be joining the Daytona 500 pre-race festivities, which will feature Trackhouse Racing co-owner Pitbull performing the pre-race concert.

Johnson is another big face that NASCAR has been able to secure to help with the ceremonies. Starting this weekend in Los Angeles for the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, Machine Gun Kelly will be performing during the midway race break. The Clash at the Coliseum will take place Sunday at 8 p.m. EST.

It has been announced that the USAF Thunderbirds will make their 14th consecutive appearance, doing a flyover for the Daytona 500.

An honorary pace car driver and flag starter have yet to be announced for The Great American Race on Feb. 18.
