As she walked behind the pit road wall at the 1-mile track, a pit stall cart gained speed as it came down the hill. This cart with its failing brakes barreled directly toward Busick. However, tire carrier Donovan Williams put his body directly in the path of the cart.

Williams, a Hendrick Motorsports crew member currently working for Spire Motorsports, took the brunt of the hit as he and Busick both hit the ground. He saved her from sustaining major injuries, but he also sustained some injuries as part of his heroic actions.

Williams had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. He later secured his release, where he officially met Busick. They posed together for a photo after his exit. He then flew home to the Charlotte area with the team.

Williams's size helped him take the hit from the cart. He is 6-feet-4-inches and approximately 240 pounds. He is also a former college football player for Connecticut.

He spent 2016-2019 with the Huskies, and he lined up at quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end. Williams faced off with big defenders while catching passes, throwing passes, and even carrying the ball on running plays.

"Told (Donovan Williams) at hospital I hate we had to meet this way... But so grateful we did," Busick posted on X. "We both agreed what a reminder this is to never take any of it for granted.

"Can't wait to hug you at a track again soon Donovan. And thank you to all who rushed to help us immediately."

Busick later spoke to The Athletic about the incident. She said that Williams had saved her life and that she had seen the entire situation unfold in roughly one second. Busick said that the cart pushed Williams and her "probably five to 10 feet."

Busick sustained some cuts and bruises, a hyper-extended knee, and a sore shoulder in the incident. Once she spent some time in the infield care center, she went on to cover the Truck Series race, which Kyle Busch won. She then flew to Joliet, Illinois, to cover an NHRA race.

With Williams sustaining minor injuries and heading back to North Carolina, Spire Motorsports and Hendrick Motorsports had to shuffle their lineups.

Williams is the tire carrier on Daniel Suarez's No. 7 Chevrolet, so the team turned to Andrew Egnarski. The No. 88 team of JR Motorsports had to turn to tire carrier Jarius Morehead for Saturday evening's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race.
