No NASCAR For Jenson Button in 2024

Jenson Button has been a household name in racing all over the world for a little more than two decades.

Lately, the 2009 Formula One World champion has been dabbling in the NASCAR world, including several Cup starts in 2023.

Button also paired with Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller to pilot a NASCAR Next Gen car at Le Mans in 2023, and it certainly appeared that he was heading towards a busy 2024 NASCAR racing schedule.

That won't be the case as Button, however, because doesn't have time in 2024 with a busy schedule racing in the World Endurance Championship for sportscars and WEC and TV duties with Sky Sports covering Formula One.

Button had built a big opportunity in NASCAR with Mobil 1 driving for Rick Ware Racing in the Chicago street race and then at the Indianapolis road course in last year.

Button spoke with Motorsport.com about his 2024 plans, and officially revealed NASCAR isn't on the table this season.

"I was asked to do a race this year in a really good car, but I just can't, Button said. "There's so much racing to be done and I'm also doing TV work with Sky still, and things with other sponsors, so it's enough this year."

Button didn't confirm that his NASCAR experience was completely over, as the 44-year-old has enjoyed his experience in stock-car racing and could return in the future if NASCAR will have him.

"If they (NASCAR) still want to have me!" Button said. "Mobil 1 offered me the drive this year, so they're looking for other options, but I couldn't do the one they offered me (Chicago) as I'm at the British Grand Prix."

It sucks that Button won't race in NASCAR in 2024, but Mobil 1 still hopes to fill the seat they offered him for the second Chicago street race.

That could be an interesting story to see who gets that opportunity. There are plenty of other drivers out there like Button who would be a welcomed addition for a one-off race.
