The incident occurred with six laps remaining in Sunday's race. The field raced three-wide before a stack-up occurred. Joey Logano spun from the outside line, and he slammed into the wall before his car flipped into the air. This sparked a massive crash that collected 14 other cars.

Herbst, who raced on the inside line, spun after what appeared to be contact from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. His No. 35 Toyota shot across the track and slammed into the outside wall. It then careened back across the track and slammed into the inside SAFER barrier.

"I knew it was a bad wreck when they said, 'Pace car's not even going to pick you up. We're going to stop you on the back stretch,'" Denny Hamlin said about the crash on the Actions Detrimental podcast.

"So, he's got some bumps and bruises. We'll see how that goes. And obviously, his wrist is not great, so he'll get checked out this week. ...he took one of the biggest hits you can possibly take in this car."

Herbst did not speak with media members after being helped from his car and heading to the infield care center. He provided brief comments to USA Sports while showing that he had a massive wrap around his left arm. He did not provide any details about the injury.

"My dad always said, 'If you're gonna be dumb, you'd better be tough,'" Herbst said at the end of the TV interview.

The 23XI Racing driver has previously missed a race this season due to a separate injury. He sustained a concussion in a crash at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He then missed the regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway.

Herbst took part in some of the race weekend schedule at Daytona. He qualified in the No. 35 Toyota. He then woke up the following morning with what he called the worst symptoms since his crash. This led to Harrison Burton ultimately replacing him for one week.
